(So, given the increasing number of salmon related news in the media lately, and my own new focus, this has turned into a daily feature of Save Feral Human Habitat, and will continue to be as long as there are at least four interesting wild salmon related articles per day.)

The provincial government has declared B.C.’s North Coast off-limits to fish farms — at least for now.

Salmon run will collapse unless we reverse underlying causes of decline
“It is a matter of serious regret that our choicest and most valued fish, the … salmon, is annually decreasing and the supply for exportation and home consumption is diminishing. 10 arrested for illegal salmon fishing in Sacramento River
State game wardens cited 10 more people on the Sacramento River this week for illegally netting young chinook salmon to use as bait.

Support Habitat Restoration in the California Delta
The recent decline of many California Delta fish populations is a catastrophe. Not everybody can appreciate the importance of saving the Delta smelt, but we should all understand why we need to save the salmon. The reduction or closure of salmon fishing along the entire west coast USA is a disaster for commercial and recreational fishermen and the communities that depend upon them. The problem is likely to result from many causes, so solutions to the California Delta salmon crisis will need to address many issues. Fluctuations in ocean conditions may be out of our control. We should act now to restore the degraded habitats in the California Delta. We should also export LESS water from the California Delta to southern California.

He said the project is a culmination of years worth of work. Enns said he hopes the agreement can serve as a template for other similar projects with the federal and provincial and federal governments.
