Dear Jeff Kingsbury and other really bad people,
On the night of June 6th, a bunch of us kids traveled to the port-a-potty behind the Salvation Army. We filled 5 light bulbs with shit, carried them over to Jeff Kingsbury’s Capital Playhouse, and covered his marquee in human feces.
We felt it was appropriate to use that particular batch of feces, given that the people who voided it are the same people Jeff Kingsbury does not give a shit about: those with little, those with none, those trying to have something, those who have given up.
Jeff, you have always been a slimy politician. We watched you condemn Camp Quixote (Olympia’s tent city) and then praise it when the time was right. We have watched you do whatever it took to appear to be on the side of the good people: us. But you are not, Jeff. You are arrogant enough to assume you can represent the kids of Olympia and you are foolish enough to attempt to destroy our playground. We will not quiet down for you and your masters, the people who are giving you money to ruin our town. We will ignore the noise ordinance you are attempting to shove down our throats. We will make sure you pay the price for meddling in things it is best to leave alone.
On the night of June 6th, we also climbed onto one of our jungle gyms and painted something. We painted it on the wall of building which will be replaced by the proposed condos. We painted the words YOUR CONDOS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN OUR CANVAS (A). This phrase is the first thing people will see upon descending the bridge into downtown. Unfortunately, Jeff, no one likes you. And everyone likes us. We will win.
We are the children of Olympia. We are the Nihilist Assault Group, otherwise known as NAG. We are anarchists who will never obey any authority, even the authority of other anarchists, and thus can be classified, if you like, as nihilists. NAG is the child they attempted to silence. NAG is the fire alarm pulled during class. NAG is the burning school and the clogged toilet. NAG is everywhere.
NAG is not affiliated with any group, organization or project in Olympia other than NAG. Everyone hates NAG. We are perfectly content with this and prefer it that way. It is not everyone who has the courage to fling feces.
NAG will strike again!

I take issue with a lot of the language used in this statement which is, in one case, completly autohypocritical: “And everyone likes us. We will win” which is proceeded by “Everyone hates NAG. We are perfectly content with this and prefer it that way.”
I don’t have an issue with being hypocritical if it’s acknowledged, but it doesn’t seem like it is being acknowledged here.
Saying that nobody likes Jeff is most likely not true. He certainly has people who like him, just as many other people do.
The condos would be something more than your canvas, they would be a thousand other things to other people. Houses, things blocking the view, needless development, money makers, etc.
Making statements out of opinions in this way happens often and seems to me a very disingenuous way of communicating. It doesn’t leave any space for other points of view, and if the whole world ever became a place where there was no space left for other points of view I most certainly would not to be living in it.
Also, putting people down no matter how much I have a problem with them doesn’t ever feel productive to me. I think that whatever energy or sentiment is put out into the world solicits an in-kind response (whether that response is direct or indirect). I particularly have a problem with put-downs as they seem to serve little other purpose than to objectively vilify someone or something.
I don’t necessarily have an issue with the stance or action taken, just with language and attitudes that leave little or no space for others. It feels scarily similar to language and attitudes used and held by the same people, societal structures, and organizations that this statement of action is in opposition of.
whether it’s intentional or not. the NAG sure sounds like a joke. seems like it’s someone just trying to divide the city even more.
and if it is real. i doubt they’ve lived in olympia more than six months. but if it is an intentional joke, i think it’s pretty funny even if it stirs up a bunch of shit.
tanstaafl,

p.s. in the olympian it said that the light bulbs were filled with brown paint. it’s a funny image; kingsbury cleaning up feces in his chinos.
Anyone who — apparently without a sense of irony — calls themselves nihilists, while expressing a superior morality, is not worth listening to. At least not until they look up what “nihilism” means.
