Hello friends and other curious web surfers.
I imagine there are one or two, or if I’m lucky, three people out there wondering what has happened to this blog. Used to be I’d repost interesting news articles every day, but then nothing.
Life happens sometimes.
Every so often, though, I decide that I’m going to start some actual ‘blogging’, that is, sharing info and thoughts. Twice in the past six months Anyway, let’s do that right now, shall we?
So, tomorrow I start my first day as a vendor of the Victoria Street Newz. The Street Newz is a great publication, and I’m not just saying that because I manage to get an article published in it about once every two months. It’s simply the best street newspaper I’ve come across.
Yeah, I’m poor, and I’ve got some ‘barriers to employment’ right now, but I enjoy vending on the street. I haven’t figured out what to vend, so until I do, it’ll be street news.
Other than that, I’ve been putting a lot of time into B Channel, an co-operative autonomous video news website that some friends and I have started. We have one story up right now, sort of a test pilot. It’ll be the template for the style of the articles. Unless we decide to do it differently, which we might. Check it out at http://bchannelnews.tv and let me know what you think.
If you live here in Victoria, and would be interested in being a reporter, or you have a video camera and would like to film stories, or you are in to making your own independent local news, let me know. The focus is local issues, and so far, all we have managed to be able to say about how we want to cover events is that we want to be comprehensive and factual.
A lot of what I have learnt about issues in other cities is from news media. When news media is being used as a research tool, it needs to be much more comprehensive.
Our goal is not just to convey a story, but to be a research tool for students, activists, scholars, etc., who want to know as much about an issue as possible.
We’re still working on a mission statement and are just letting the site speak for itself right now, so check it out.
And I will blog ya later.
