The Bear Mountain Tree Sit stood in the way of the Bear Mountain Interchange for ten months, helping to bring attention to the ecocide, genocide, corruption and injustice inflicted by a massive conflict of interest involving logging companies, developers, government and urban sprawl contractors. It’s take-down made international news when a rotating squad of almost 300 RCMP, Municipal and undeclared SWAT police moved in under cover of night to surround the forest, seal off the neighbourhood and extract 3 tree sitters and 3 ground crew. Tree sitters continued occupying trees, even after having lost their home, all their belongings, the forest they loved, and a few friends to the justice system for several weeks, as a groundswell of local and regional organizing and campaigning rose up in it’s place.
Is the tree sit over? Only time will tell. For archived news related to the tree sit (and any new news that might rise up), follow this link.
